Bamboo Removal in Sanford

Cutting bamboo to the ground only sets it back a season. We remove the canes, dig out the rhizome mass beneath them and check the area again later, with the same small crew from the first walkthrough to the final visit.

Removing the root system, not just the canes

Bamboo stores its energy underground in rhizomes, thick jointed stems that run sideways through the top foot or so of soil. Every cane you see is connected to that network, and any healthy piece left behind can send up new shoots. That is why mowing, chopping or spraying the tops rarely ends the problem.

Running types, such as golden bamboo, spread outward and slip under fences, beds and walkways. Clumping types stay tighter but build a dense root crown that is heavy work to lift. We identify which you have before quoting, because the two are removed differently.

Our crew is small on purpose. The people who walk the stand with you are the people who dig it out and the people who come back to look for regrowth, so nothing gets lost between visits.

What our bamboo removal includes

  1. 01

    Cutting and hauling the canes

We cut every culm at the base, bundle it and haul it off your property. Mature canes are hard and sharp when split, so we do not leave piles behind.

  2. 02

    Digging out the rhizome mass

We excavate the rhizomes by hand and machine depending on access, following runners until they end. Near fences, slabs and pool decks we slow down and work by hand.

  3. 03

    Sifting the soil

Loose fragments are what cause regrowth. We sort through the excavated soil and pull out pieces before backfilling.

  4. 04

Root barrier where it makes sense

If your neighbor's bamboo is the source, we can install a buried barrier along the property line to slow it from crossing back. We will tell you plainly if a barrier will not help in your situation.

  5. 05

    Regrowth check

We return after the area has had time to push up any missed shoots and remove them while they are still small.

Signs your bamboo needs to come out

  • Shoots in the lawn or beds

New spears appearing several feet from the main stand mean running rhizomes are already under your grass or planting beds.

  • Pressure on fences or walkways

Rhizomes push against fence posts and lift pavers and edging as they thicken. Catching it early keeps the repair small.

  • Irrigation lines in the way

Roots wrap around and crowd sprinkler pipe and heads. Uneven watering nearby is often the first clue.

  • It is coming from next door

Bamboo does not respect property lines. Removing what has crossed over and adding a barrier keeps you from repeating the job every year.

  • A stand that has outgrown its spot

A planting meant as a privacy screen can swallow a side yard in a few warm, wet summers and shade out everything around it.

How a bamboo removal job runs

  1. 1

    On-site walkthrough

We look at the stand, probe the soil to see how far the rhizomes travel and note anything nearby that needs care, like pipes or a pool deck. You get a clear written estimate with the work broken out.

  2. 2

    Protecting what stays

Before digging we mark irrigation lines and flag plants you want to keep. Ground protection goes down where equipment crosses the lawn.

  3. 3

    Cutting, digging and sifting

We clear the canes, then excavate the root mass and sort the soil. Larger stands can take more than one day, and the same crew returns each day until it is done.

  4. 4

    Backfill and cleanup

We fill and level the area, rake it out and haul away canes, roots and debris. The ground is left ready for sod, mulch or a new bed.

  5. 5

    Follow-up visit

We come back to check for shoots and pull any that appear before they can establish.

What affects the cost of bamboo removal

Every stand is different, so we price after seeing it in person. The biggest driver is what is happening underground, which is why we probe the soil during the free estimate. When removal is one part of a bigger yard project, we can finance amounts up to $100,000, with terms running from two to twelve years and no penalty if you pay it off early.

Size and age of the stand
An old, dense stand has a thicker, deeper rhizome mat and far more cane volume to haul away.
Running or clumping type
Running bamboo means following runners across a wider area. Clumping bamboo is more contained but the root crown is heavy to lift.
Access and nearby structures
Tight side yards, fences, slabs and buried utilities mean more handwork and slower digging.
Barrier and restoration
Adding a root barrier, or restoring the area with sod or new plantings afterward, adds to the scope.

Bamboo removal questions

Can I just spray the bamboo with herbicide?

Spraying can weaken a stand, but the rhizomes hold so much stored energy that one treatment rarely finishes it. Most stands need repeated work over a long period if chemicals are the only tool. Physical removal of the root mass is slower on the day and far more final.

Will the bamboo grow back after you remove it?

A few shoots from missed fragments are common in the first growing season. That is why we sift the soil and come back for a regrowth check. Small shoots caught early come out easily and stop there.

The bamboo is coming from my neighbor's yard. What can you do?

We remove everything on your side of the line and can install a buried root barrier along it. We work only on your property. A barrier does not kill the neighbor's stand, but it greatly slows it from returning to yours.

What happens to the area once the bamboo is gone?

We backfill, level and clean up so the ground is ready to use. Many customers follow with sod installation or a new bed, and if a large cane base remains we can handle it through our stump grinding service.

Is your company covered for digging near fences and buried lines?

Yes. We are business licensed and fully insured, and we have been in business since 2018. Excavating close to fences, slabs and underground lines carries real risk, so that coverage matters on a job like this.

We will walk the stand with you, show you how far the rhizomes run and explain what full removal involves. The estimate is free and the same crew sees the job through.
