Sod Installation in Sanford
When a lawn is too thin, patchy or weedy to recover, new sod gives you a finished yard in a day or two. Our small crew removes the old turf, prepares the soil properly and lays every piece by hand, with the same people from first cut to final roll.
When new sod is the right call
Fertilizer and patience can bring back a lawn that is only stressed. They cannot fix one where chinch bugs, shade or years of weeds have taken more ground than the grass still holds. At that point, starting fresh usually costs less over time than nursing turf that will never spread back over the bare spots.
Sod is also the practical answer after construction, a drainage fix or a redesign, when bare sand needs to become lawn quickly and hold together through summer storms. We match the grass to the spot: St. Augustine for most yards, a shade-tolerant cultivar under oaks, Zoysia where you want a finer, denser look, or Bahia for big sunny areas that should need less water and attention.
We keep each job with one small crew. The person who measures your yard and checks your soil is on site the day the pallets arrive, so nothing is lost between the estimate and the install.
What a sod installation includes
- Old turf and weed removal
- We cut out the existing grass with a sod cutter or treat it first, depending on what is growing. Taking the roots out keeps old weeds and torpedograss from pushing up through the new lawn.
- Grading and soil prep
- Our sandy soil drains fast and holds little. We loosen the surface, add soil where low spots or poor fill need it, and grade so water moves away from your home instead of pooling against it.
- Grass chosen for each area
- Full sun and deep shade often sit a few feet apart in the same yard. We may use more than one variety so each section has a real chance to thrive.
- Hand-laid, tight seams
- Pieces go down with staggered joints and edges pressed together, cut cleanly around beds, walks and trees. Gaps are where sod dries out and weeds get in, so we take the time here.
- Rolling and first watering
- We roll the finished lawn so roots touch soil everywhere, then soak it before we leave. Leftover pieces, netting and old turf leave with us.
Signs your lawn is ready for new sod
More bare sand than grass
If the patches have grown into open ground each summer, the runners left are not going to cover it.
Weeds have the upper hand
Dollarweed, crabgrass and sedge that outnumber the turf are hard to remove without harming what little grass remains.
Chinch bug or disease damage
Large dead areas of St. Augustine that stay brown after treatment and rain usually need replacing, ideally with a more resistant variety.
Grass dying out under trees
As canopies grow, sun-loving grass thins. A shade-tolerant choice, or a planting bed in the darkest spot, solves it for good.
A yard torn up by other work
After a new patio, a drainage fix or tree removal, sod restores the lawn quickly and keeps sand from washing during heavy rain.
How install day goes
- 1
Walkthrough and estimate
We measure the lawn, look at sun, shade and drainage, and check your sprinkler coverage. You get a clear written estimate and a recommended grass for each area.
- 2
Prep before delivery
We remove the old turf and grade the soil first, so the sod never waits on a pallet in the heat while ground work catches up.
- 3
Laying the sod
The same crew lays, cuts and fits every piece the day it arrives, while it is still cool and moist.
- 4
Rolling, watering and handoff
We roll, water deeply and clean up. Before we leave, we walk you through the watering schedule for the first weeks and what new sod is allowed under local watering rules.

What moves the cost of new sod
Your price depends far more on the ground than on the grass itself. We look closely during the free walkthrough and list each part of the job separately, so you can see where the money goes. For a bigger lawn, payments can be spread out with financing of up to $100,000, on terms anywhere from 2 to 12 years, and paying it off early carries no penalty.
- Square footage
- Sod is sold by the pallet, so area sets the baseline. Odd shapes and many curves add cutting time.
- Grass variety
- Bahia is generally the most economical. Premium St. Augustine cultivars and Zoysia cost more per pallet.
- Removal and soil work
- Thick old turf, heavy weeds, roots or low areas that need added soil take more labor and material.
- Access and irrigation
- Narrow side yards and fenced backyards mean hand-carrying pallets. If sprinkler heads need adjusting so the new lawn gets even coverage, that is noted as its own item.
Sod installation questions
Something not covered here? (407) 305-3430
What is the best time of year to lay sod here?
Spring through early fall is ideal because warm-season grass roots quickly when soil is warm. Summer heat is fine as long as watering keeps up. Sod laid in the cooler months survives but roots more slowly, so it needs a gentler hand until spring.
How long until I can walk on it or mow?
Keep foot traffic light for about two weeks. Most lawns are ready for a first mow in two to three weeks, once a gentle tug shows the roots have taken hold. Our lawn care service can handle that first cut at the right height.
How much should I water new sod?
Short, frequent watering for the first week or so, keeping the pads moist, then longer and less often as roots go down. We leave you a written schedule and explain how the watering allowance for new landscaping works so you stay within local rules.
Do I need a sprinkler system for sod?
It helps a great deal, especially for St. Augustine and Zoysia. If your system has dry spots, our irrigation work can correct the coverage before the sod goes down. Bahia tolerates hand watering better once established.
What protects my property while the crew is working?
Our company is business licensed and fully insured, and we have been in business since 2018. Sod cutters, delivery trucks and heavy pallets are part of the job, so that coverage matters on your property. We also lay boards over soft ground and keep equipment off your driveway edges where we can.

Start with a look at your yard
