ServicesPalm Tree Pruning and Removal

Palm Tree Pruning and Removal in Sanford

We trim palms the way they grow best. We take the dead fronds, seed stalks and loose boots, and leave the green crown that feeds the tree. When a palm has to come down, the same small crew takes it down in sections and leaves your yard clean.

Pruning that protects the palm, removal when it can't be saved

Most palms need far less cutting than they usually get. A tidy palm keeps its fronds from roughly the nine o'clock to the three o'clock position. Anything below that line that is brown, broken or hanging can go. The tight, over-cut look some yards get, often called a hurricane cut, strips away the leaves the palm uses to make food and store nutrients, and it can leave a thin, pencil-necked trunk over time.

Removal is the right call when a palm is dying, diseased or simply too close to your home, a pool cage or a power line. We tell you which situation you have after looking at the tree, not before.

We are a small team, business licensed and fully insured, and we have been doing this work since 2018. The people who walk your property with you are the people who climb, cut and clean up.

What our palm work includes

Dead and hanging frond removal
We cut brown and broken fronds close to the trunk without tearing the base. Green fronds above horizontal stay on the tree.
Seed pods and flower stalks
Queen palms and date palms drop heavy fruit clusters that stain pavers and draw insects. Taking the stalks off early keeps patios and pool decks cleaner.
Boot cleanup on sabal palms
Loose old leaf bases on cabbage palms can be trimmed for a neater trunk. We leave the firmly attached ones, since pulling them can scar the trunk.
Climbing without spikes on live palms
Spikes punch wounds into a palm trunk that never heal. On healthy trees we work from a lift or ladder and a climbing line instead.
Sectional palm removal
Tall palms near structures come down in measured pieces, lowered by rope where space is tight. Nothing is dropped where it could hit a roof or screen.
Full haul-away
Fronds, trunk sections and debris leave with us. Grinding the stump afterward is a separate option covered under stump grinding.

Signs your palm needs attention

  • Fronds hanging over the roof or lanai

Dry fronds fall without warning and can tear pool screens or clog roof valleys. A trim before summer storms keeps them off your home.

  • Spotted, frizzled older fronds

This often points to potassium deficiency. Cutting those fronds off too early makes it worse, so we may advise feeding and patience before pruning.

  • A shelf-like growth near the base

A woody conk at the lower trunk is a sign of ganoderma butt rot. There is no cure, and the palm should come out before it weakens further.

  • The spear leaf is brown or pulls free

The newest center leaf collapsing can signal bud rot or lethal bronzing. If the bud is gone, the palm will not recover.

  • A palm that has outgrown its spot

A palm planted too close to the house can crowd the eaves or lift a walkway as it matures. Sometimes removal and a new planting plan is the better long-term answer.

How a palm job runs

  1. 1

    A walkthrough with you

We look at each palm, its species, height and health, and what sits beneath it. You hear plainly whether it needs a light trim, a closer look or removal.

  2. 2

    A written estimate

You get the scope tree by tree, so you know exactly which palms are being trimmed or taken down.

  3. 3

    Protecting the yard

Before cutting, we set tarps over beds and keep the drop zone clear of patio furniture, cars and screens.

  4. 4

    Cutting and lowering

The same crew handles the climb, the cuts and the rope work. Heavy sections are lowered, not thrown.

  5. 5

    Cleanup and a final look

We rake, blow off hard surfaces and haul everything away, then walk the property with you before we leave.

What shapes the price of palm work

Every estimate is built around your trees and your yard, and it is free. Height and access matter most, followed by how much material leaves the property. If you would rather spread out the cost of a bigger removal, we can arrange financing of as much as $100,000, with terms anywhere from 2 to 12 years and no penalty if you pay it off early.

Palm height and species
A short pygmy date palm takes minutes. A tall Washingtonia or a Canary Island date palm with sharp spines takes more time, rope work and care.
Access and what's below
Palms leaning over a pool cage, roofline or power line need slower sectional work. Open yards with room to lower pieces cost less to work in.
Number of trees
Several palms trimmed in one visit share setup and cleanup time, which brings the per-tree cost down.
Removal versus trim, and the stump
Removal involves more cutting and much more hauling than a trim. Adding stump grinding is priced separately so you can choose.

Palm pruning and removal questions

Something not covered here? (407) 305-3430

How often should my palms be trimmed?

Most palms around Sanford do well with one careful trim a year, often in late spring before hurricane season. Fast-fruiting palms like queens may need a second visit to clear seed stalks. Trimming more often than that usually takes fronds the tree still needs.

Can you trim my palm so it looks really clean?

We can make it neat, but we won't strip it to a few top fronds. Over-pruning starves the palm, weakens the trunk near the crown and can make it more likely to snap in high wind. We'll show you what a healthy trim looks like on your tree before we start.

Should I remove yellowing fronds?

Not always. A palm pulls nutrients from older fronds as they yellow, so removing them early can deepen a deficiency. If the yellowing is widespread, a feeding program is often the better first step.

Do you grind the stump after removing a palm?

We can. Stump grinding is offered as a separate step, and we'll include it in your estimate if you want the area ready for sod, a planting bed or pavers.

Do you work outside Sanford?

Yes. We handle palm work in Lake Mary, Heathrow, Longwood, DeBary, Winter Springs and nearby towns across the area.
